Design It Yourself: Pom-Pom Party Pumps

We at DFW Style Daily understand that sometimes you've just got to take matters into your own hands. Can’t quite afford the price of a brand-new accessory for every single shindig? Seeking a totally unique holiday gift for someone very special? Hello? Make it yourself!

With the debut of our D.I.Y. series, we'll show you step-by-step how to design your own fashionable treasures. You’ll look fabulous, and your friends will swoon. First up, as we enter the season of perpetual parties, a gal needs to be prepared to turn some heads. Knowing that a great statement heel is the ultimate accessory, we'll show you how to turn your Plain Jane pumps into fabulous, fantasy footwear in three easy steps.

The Set-Up: First of all, grab a friend and take this D.I.Y. time to chill out. You're going to require food, and wine is also highly suggested (cat-shaped bottle a plus). After you've fueled up, gather your materials.

Grab that tired pair of heels hiding in the back of your closet. They’re just begging for a makeover. We used an old pair of Forever 21 stilettos whose youth had tragically been drained. You'll also need decorative pom-poms in the colors of your choice, as well as fabric glue. Shoes aside, these materials are available at any craft or hobby store for under $10, total.

Step 1: Glue the pom-poms in a straight line down the back of the shoe, ending at the top of the heel. At this stage, your redesigned shoes will look like little dinosaurs for your feet. Lady Gaga would love them.

Step 2: Continue to affix the pom-poms in the shape of a diamond across the back of each shoe. Choose pom-poms at random, or follow a color pattern. Warning: If wine is one of your supplies, stick with random.

Step 3: Let your new shoes dry for at least two hours before taking them out on the town. After the allotted time has passed, pair them with a cute cocktail dress and get ready to dance away the night. At the very least, you will certainly be the center of attention when you walk in sporting these pumped-up pumps. Party on!     All images credit Heather Lettieri for DFW Style Daily.
