We’re all about girl empowerment here at DFW Style Daily, and this weekend we have an event designated to celebrating what makes girls one of a kind! The Girls on the Run DFW 5k is coming in hot this Saturday, November 17, at 8am at Fair Park. This spirited 5k is something that all young girls and their families will be looking forward to this weekend. Girls on the Run is passionate about female empowerment and their mission is to inspire all girls to recognize their inner strengths while helping them develop important skills for life. This program helps young girls celebrate their uniqueness and diversity, and it's a true learning foundation for their futures.
Girls on the Run is a ten-week program designed for girls in 3rd-5th grade, they meet twice a week after-school with 2-3 volunteer coaches. These volunteers act as life-coaches and guide them through the program while giving the girls the necessities they need to build greater confidence in themselves. They have 3 main goals that they live by while being in the program. The first is to remember to always have fun and live with a joyful spirit that embodies Girls on the Run. The second is to complete a non-competitive 5k because it’s never about who is first or fastest, instead, it's a reminder to work towards your personal goals and enjoy the journey. The third and last goal is to plan and execute a community impact project, where the girls will learn to work as a team and compromise as well as collaborate.
