We love a list and a Best in Dallas list is even better! Today, we’re sharing some local favorites from Laci Mckinney, of the People’s Voice PR. A Texas native and true city girl, Laci told us all about her favorite little-hidden spots in Dallas. Read on for Laci’s Best in Dallas picks!
Born into a family of entrepreneurs and educators, Laci took the road of education and has received numerous college degrees completing not one, but two Masters Degrees concurrently. Inspired by the ever-growing entrepreneurial ecosystem in Dallas, this Girlboss explored her passions and two unforgettable interactions with blossoming entrepreneurs and the term “Side Hustle”, Laci launched The People’s Voice PR Agency in August 2016. The “Chief Encouragement Officer” for The People’s Voice PR Agency, she works with startups, nonprofits and emerging creative brands on amplifying their voices through their brand. When she’s not working, Laci spends her time with her 2 boys, Edward and Tommy. Laci enjoys working on personal creative projects, enjoying performing arts, socializing and exploring Dallas.
Foodie Favorite: Campuzanos in Cedar Hill, Texas
When Laci isn’t working in the Big D, she loves the small intimate space that Campuzanos in Ceder Hill provides. She heads there with her two boys, Edward and Tommy. “Some good Mexican food, it’s actually an old house near downtown Cedar Hill,” said Laci. “Their “World Famous Campuzaons Nachos” on the starter menu is just $20 and feeds the whole family.”
Cocktail Culture: Mesa
Located on Jefferson Blvd in Oak Cliff, Mckinney picks this as her favorite drink spot. “The drink is called Caipirinha, not overly sweet, very refreshing,” said Mckinney. “It’s a small intimate place hidden in the mix on Jefferson Blvd.”
Artistic Addiction: Jeremy Biggers
Laci chose local artist, Jeremy Biggers as her pick for favorite Dallas artist. The hyper-realistic portraiture artist has caught Mckinney’s eye,”His work is just so life like.”
On The Move: Camp Gladiator -Best Southwest Camps
Laci loves a good challenge, “Trust me it’s hard, you will sweat but the team support and atmosphere keeps you coming back for more,” Mckinney said.
Brain Candy: Arts Mission Oak Cliff’s Beyonce Ballet
“Ballet is brain candy for me. It takes a lot to mimic the moves and look halfway refined,” said Laci. “Its been years for me since minoring in Dance at Texas Woman’s University as well as being a High Hat at Duncanville High School many moons ago.” Mckinney shares a favorite work out with DFWSD, in the form of the Arts Mission Oak Cliff Beyonce Ballet Class. “I grew up dancing with the Mary Lois School of Dance; so to find ballet with a twist was something I had to try. I love what Arts Mission is doing with their adult classes.”
I Heart Dallas: The Kessler Park Community
Laci’s favorite place is Dallas’ Kessler Park neighborhood. “Beautiful homes, growth, rich history of Dallas/Oak Cliff. Would love to one day own a home in this neighborhood,” Laci said.
She has worked with brands such as; The Prototype, Think and Grow Chick, Conscious Couture, Style Sew Me, Textures Natural Hair Care, The Kolada Group and Sprung Art Series featuring Nicholle Kobi. Laci has contributed to entities such as The Dallas Entrepreneur Centers Ambassador Class of 2016, Interviewer for Pink Productions of Houston, Texas and recently joining the founding board for the non-profit Every Girl Deserves. Her newest project, her brand anniversary campaign which kicked off in August, “IS THIS MIC ON CAMPAIGN” which has brought together local creatives of Dallas to share their stories and tell why their VOICES DESERVES TO BE HEARD.
