Ladies! Get ready to pull out those cute leggings you’ve been dying to wear all year, the first-ever Pilates Week 2017 is just around the corner.
Dallas’ own Pilates guru Alexia Hammonds created and planned out the first ever Pilates Week and we couldn’t be more excited to get our fitness on. Starting today, the week will be filled with raffles, giveaways, virtual Pilates sessions, educational workshops, pilates looks of the day, cocktail parties and more. Event organizers will donate 100 percent of all funds raised during this fun filled week to Pilates Youth Organization as well as scholarships and programs for the youth to promote a healthy lifestyle. From the Pilates “Look of the Day” by Bandier to Friday’s “Pinot & Pilates” fitness happy hour, we can’t wait to see all the success of the first ever Pilates Week.
We spoke to the Pilates pro Alexia Hammonds to see exactly what she’s anticipating about the week, and some tips for the future pilates guru’s out there.
DFWSD: Where did the idea for Pilates Week come into play?
Alexia: “After creating Pilates Live, I wanted to create a Week where pilates professionals and enthusiasts come together to enjoy free classes, bond and share with each other, and raise funds for Pilates Youth Organization. I’m known to be a connector and it’s important to me that there’s a stronger sense of community within the industry I love so much.”
What are you looking forward to the most with Pilates Week?
“I am looking forward to our big class on the Ron Kirk Pedestrian Bridge on May 6th! It’s free and open to everyone.”
Any tips to encourage others to incorporate Pilates into their everyday life?
“Find a classical Pilates studio that teaches true to Joseph’s method (Joseph Pilates) using the equipment he designed. Be patient and kind to your body while learning new things. If you can’t make it to the studio, I’d suggest catching a live class on the Pilates Live Facebook page. People love Pilates Live because they can do it live or when they have time after it airs.”
What are some of your favorite/cute workout clothes you suggest for the ladies wanting to fashionable while they live the fitness life?
“My favorite ‘fab & functional’ brands include Michi NY, Heroine Sport, Ultracor and lululemon. APL’s are my signature sneaker while I teach. And an off the shoulder or cold shoulder top is always a yes! They work well for running and cross training too! Bandier in Highland Park Village is my go to for all things workout wear.”
Pilates Week kicked off tonight and continues through the week. Meet us on the reformer for a great workout and a post-workout glass of pinot. Keep up with the week-long event on Facebook here.
