STOP! Festival style as you know it (think feathers, crochet and boho boots) is dead. We’re welcoming a new look for festival season – one that is just as tough as you. That’s right, rock ‘n roll meets grunge and girly in our new SXSW Survival Guide. DFW Style Daily is heading to the Live Music Capitol of the World for a week-long fashion and beats extravangaza. Inspired by the street style of yesteryear, we’re feeling some serious ’90s vibes.
If you’ve ever been to SXSW, you know to expect a lot of walking. Since Uber is no longer available in the area and other ride share services will be slammed, your best bet is to park at one location and walk or pedi cab as you party hop across downtown Austin. These COACH cut-out creepers are pretty much everything. The brand has taken leaps and bounds in a new direction and we’re loving it. The goth chic ’90s grunge vibe of these is so in right now. Treat animal prints as a neutral and pair these babies with anything your fierce heart desires.
Logo tees are a lazy girl’s best friend. Without much effort, this tee can look fabulous worn under a slip dress, leather jacket, bomber or vest and tucked into jeans or a midi skirt. March is Women’s History Month and in today’s political climate, you get more cool points by celebrating your standpoint on the female race. #GIRLPOWER!
Okay, this is definitely an investment piece. There are lots of vest alternatives online for a lesser price, but again we have to hand it to COACH for creating this uber cool piece. “Designed with the rebellious spirit of girl gangs in mind” this studded beauty is cutomizable. Yes, that means you can deck it out however you please. Wear it over a feminine dress, your logo tee or anything in between and you’ll spark up conversations wherever you go.
Again, these jeans are on the pricey side but they were too good for us to pass up. A hybrid between a destroyed skirt and raw hemmed jeans, this pair stands alone. Keep it simple up top and let these do the talking. Out of your price range? Find a cropped pair that’s slightly flared and distressed instead.
Hershel can do no wrong with their classic backpack styles. This pretty little thing gets our vote for three reasons: it’s lightweight, affordable and made with reflective fabric that shines like a diamond at nighttime. It’s big enough to carry the essentials and it’s cute.
A fresh take on the classic Pascal boot, this throwback is part of Dr. Marten’s Floral Clash Collection and features three floral prints in one. Inspired by British vintage fabrics from, of course, the ’90s – these flirty, yet edgy clunkers are the perfect addition to any SXSW outfit.
ModCloth Ladies Who Launch A-Line Dress
Ditzy florals are all the rage this spring. White and yellow petals adorn this ModCloth frock and its breezy fabric makes it a perfect pick for walking around all day and cramming into packed venues. Any floral dress will do, but our favorite is a sheer one.
If you’re paying attention, you’ll notice there’s a trend here. Pairing girly details with grungy, rock ‘n roll pieces. This chunky bracelet gives a nod to a classic but mixes it up with a serpent-shaped closure and a silver-brass mix. Think of it as the cherry on top.
Say goodbye to the boring button-down. Pick up a fresh take on an old staple in classic white or get adventurous with a striped ruffle version. This online retailer is turning heads with wow-worthy pieces at affordable prices. Pair it with distressed denim, a colorful mini or trousers with a side track stripe.
Fitted and cropped, this pair is our new go-to. Kick flares are trending right now and are surprisingly more flattering than you’d think. BLANKNYC gets brownie points for creating a flirty, stretchy alternative to the skinny jean.
We’re sad to say it, but teeny earrings are out this season. These pom pom cuties make us a little less blue about it. We love the idea of wearing this pair with a logo tee, dad hat and ponytail. Make your outfit more feminine and playful with a pom pom adorning your ear.
This hat goes with everything. A dad or baseball cap adds a cool girl element to any outfit, especially a feminine one. Shade yourself from the SXSW sun and look cool in the process. This particular hat gives a bit of ’90s nostalgia and we love that.
