Say hello to Harper & Tucker! A Dallas-based, online-only boutique for all the girls out there who love effortless, carefree and fun fashion—a.k.a. all of us here at DFW Style Daily! Founded by BFFs Dakota Whitworth and Natalie Swift and named after both founders’ furry friends, the shop caters to all your boho-chic desires.
Dakota and Natalie were sorority sisters who met at UNC Chapel Hill and became virtually inseparable ever since. Dakota had always been drawn to the fashion industry and dreamt of opening her own store from an early age, but knew she had to start in the corporate world first. Right out of college, she was an assistant buyer in fine apparel at Neiman Marcus’ corporate office. Natalie was pursuing nonprofit work at the time until Dakota invited her to join in on creating Harper & Tucker. The two left the corporate world and haven’t turned back.
“I just knew that my real dream was to start something of my own and that I would never be fully happy if I didn’t try,” Dakota told us.
“It began with us brainstorming different concepts and figuring out how to make Dakota’s dream into a reality,” Natalie added. “Very quickly, it became a shared dream and idea.”
While the store itself currently stays online, Dakota and Natalie do everything on their part to bring all the best aspects of brick-and-mortar to their customers. The girls strive to host pop-ups and trunk shows each week, offer private shopping parties and frequently attend events to encourage the social element of their business. In fact, we met these gals at a pop-up during last weekend’s WHAT SHE SAID Women’s Empowerment Conference.
Dakota and Natalie say their professional backgrounds, common values and shared outlook on life allow them to perfectly balance each other out and run the business together smoothly. Ultimately, their passion for empowering young women in a driving force behind Harper & Tucker.
“I truly believe in the idea of looking food to feel good. Nothing boosts my confidence more than the perfect outfit or the right pair of shoes,” Dakota said. “We also try to embody women empowerment in our team at H&T. From our photographer to our graphic designer to our models, everyone we work with is a young woman striving for her own career goals.”
“Fashion may be an external expression, but if you love what you wear, that confidence will internalize,” Natalie said.
Harper & Tucker is our new fashion obsession at DFW Style Daily. It’s no secret that we love a business founded on girl power, and all the pretty clothes and free shipping are just a bonus. Now, let’s get shopping!
