Up-and-coming local rapper/producer Tru Def, came in 2017 with a bang and already sitting on the throne. The DFW native has been killing the game since his first album “Crown” that came out in 2013. Tru Def has opened for big names in the hip-hop world such as Ludacris and Lupe Fiasco, not to mention having Lil Jon DJ his set at the Up For Whatever Festival. The rapper definitely hit the ground running and there is no slowing down here for Tru. Following in the footsteps of urban music icons such as Kanye West, Rihanna and The Weeknd, the local artist has decided to enter the retail game with a lifestyle clothing line
Here at DFW Style Daily, we got exclusive access to last Friday’s legendary pop-up shop debut. The super-secret event required fans to RSVP for the event and in a matter of days, it was at capacity. Buzzing on social media, Tru’s lifestyle pop-up was highly anticipated after the artist announced his exclusive line of merchandise for purchase – along with a sneak peek at new tracks from his forthcoming album “Aufstand.”
As we emerged, we were hit by flashing lights, DJ Mike B spinning flashback hits and Tru Def hyping up the crowd at a an enormous loft called Upper Underground. Positive vibes, great food and awesome drinks? Count us in. Creatively hung, we spied his new line (describe the line here).
To top off the night, Tru hopped on stage to perform a never-been-heard song from his album. The crowd was so hyped up that the floor was shaking…literally! Tru may be local for now, but he never fails to entertain. He closed with a motivational speech before wowing attendees with a fashion show featuring his new line in its entirety on the makeshift runway.
