Parties for a good cause are amazing, but themed parties for a good cause are even better! The Sands: A Retro Nightclub Experience, taking place this Saturday, Nov. 5 at the 2616 Commerce Event Center at 8 p.m., is a 1960’s themed fundraiser coming to the Big D to raise awareness and funds for the AIDS Interfaith Network. With a retro fashion show courtesy of N. Henderson Ave. paradise Vintage Martini, dancing, a special performance by crooner Hunter Sullivan, and an open bar, the nightclub event is a must-see! Dressing up is strongly encouraged and with so many fabulous 1960’s options to choose from- who wouldn’t?

Read on for the scoop on this Saturday’s big event in our exclusive interview with event coordinator Miranda Grant and see you on the runway!

DFW Style Daily: How did you come up with the concept for this event?

“We do a large three course seated dinner gala in the Spring/Summer every year called Bloomin’ Ball and also try to do a smaller scale cocktail reception/party fundraiser. In the past we named this smaller cocktail reception The Great Gatsby- it had a 1920’s theme and took place on a Sunday afternoon. This year, in honor of our 30th anniversary, we wanted to try something different. We collaborated with Vintage Martini and The Sands and a retro nightclub experience was born!”

You’ve described the event as Rat Pack meets “Mad Men”. What is the dress code?

The dress code is cocktail chic. We encourage guests to watch a few episodes of ‘Mad Men’ for inspiration.”

You mentioned that a few VIP surprises will take place from 8 to 9 p.m. Can you give us any hints as to what that could be?

“Our lips are sealed, you will have to come and find out!”

Tickets can be purchased here online. Complimentary valet is provided. VIP guests can attend an exclusive Cocktail hour featuring Amadora Tequila specialty cocktails, swag bags, an open bar, nibbles and a few VIP surprises from 8 to 9 p.m. General public admission starts at 9 p.m. The masterminds at Vintage Martini are behind the vintage-inspired fashion show and have plans to show retro cocktail attire on a wide array of local personalities to be announced! Throw on a wiggle dress and some kitten heels and get ready to dance the night away! It’ll be a gas.
