Earlier this spring, we heard rumblings around town about a new-to-Texas fitness concept that is all the rage in L.A. and New York. Considering we’ve tried out nearly all of the cycling studios in the Big D, we were pretty curious to see what all the fuss was about. SoulCycle‘s first Texas studio opened in Kirby Oaks, Houston this April with plans to open their second Texas location right here in Dallas this summer. Read on for the skinny on SoulCycle Dallas’ Texas takeover plus a special Q&A with Gabby Etrog Cohen, SVP of PR and Brand Strategy. In the meantime, here’s a snap of David Beckham looking very lumberjack chic after SoulCyclin’ his way to a fit bod.
The luxury fitness and lifestyle brand is bringing its signature fitness experience to us Southern guys and gals has plans to open 60+ more locations by the end of 2016 across the world. Avid SoulCyclist celeb enthusiasts include Madonna, Lady Gaga, David and Victoria Beckham, and Bradley Cooper. The 3,700 square foot Preston Hollow location is located on the corner of the shopping center next to Einstein’s Bagels off of Northwest Hwy and features a 60-bike studio, along with the brand’s original performance and athleisure clothing collections. The studio is all white and yellow, fully equipped with plush towels, luxurious amenities, neon sign accents, and more. It’s pretty awesome. Texas-based classes run $30 each.
After our media sneak peek and 45 sweaty minutes later, we had a chance to peruse the clothing offerings and send along a few questions for SoulCycle’s HBIC Gabby.
DFW Style Daily: Tell us about your fashion offerings, materials, brands, etc. and why they hold up during a workout. Pick a few favs!
Gabby: “SoulCycle is so much more than a workout – it’s a lifestyle brand with its own active and loungewear clothing and accessories collection – we release 14 collections per year! Our SOUL retail collections are an integral part of SoulCycle — they allow riders to take a piece of SOUL with them into their everyday lives, on the bike and off.
SoulCycle offers performance based retail, with a focus on breathability, fabric, and design, as well as a wide assortment of lifestyle and loungewear pieces that can easily transition from studio to street. Our June collection is inspired by all things summer. Right now we’re loving the Friendship Vinyasa Bra, Soul & Sun Dip Dye Tank and the SOULCYCLE Colorblock Wrap Capri.”
“SoulCycle is always looking to open in active and vibrant communities like Dallas. The energy has been amazing and we’re so excited to start building our community here!”
What tips would you give to first-time SoulCycle beginners in terms of expectations of the class?
“SoulCycle makes fitness joyful. With inspirational coaching, rockstar music, and a full body workout, our signature 45-minute class will transform the way you look and feel. Don’t beat yourself up if you can’t keep up with the pace or choreography on your first try – it takes practice! Expect to sweat and have lots of fun!
Introduce yourself! Our studio staff and instructors are incredible at making people feel comfortable and welcome. We will walk you through everything!”
Tell us more about your instructors.
“SoulCycle instructors are total rockstars! They are inspirational coaches, pushing riders to do their best on and off the bike. Each instructor is unique with his or her own personal style and musical taste – there’s truly something for everyone! You can learn more about each instructor’s background, schedule and musical taste here.”
What are the benefits, besides the obvious of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, of SoulCycle?
“SoulCycle is a full body workout. Riders engage in high-intensity cardio (burning between 500-700 calories in 45-minutes), while also toning their upper bodies using hand weights and core-engaging choreography. The patented SoulCycle bike allows riders to safely perform choreography that challenges both the large and small muscle groups throughout the body. During class, riders work with speed and resistance to push their aerobic and anaerobic fitness levels and burn fat. SoulCycle classes are rhythm based which trains riders in coordination and timing.
SoulCycle will not only change your body and help you reach your fitness goals, it also benefits the mind through mental and emotional release. It’s a total mind/body experience! Instructors deliver inspirational messages that leave you feeling stronger and more powerful after every ride. Our riders tell us every day that what happens in the studio reverberates in their lives outside of it. People walk out of SoulCycle physically and mentally stronger than when they walked in.”
What is the mission/company culture of SoulCycle?
“By combining a unique mental component of inspirational coaching, curated music, and a full-body workout on a bike, SoulCycle has reinvented indoor-cycling and created an exercise movement. Today, over 13,000 riders take SoulCycle classes every day to release stress, burn fat, tone muscle, find joy in movement, and change their bodies and lives.”
What plans does SoulCycle have for the future? We heard you’re planning on opening several DFW locations. Is that true?
“We opened our first Texas studio in Houston’s Kirby Oaks neighborhood, followed by our Preston Hollow studio here in Dallas. Next up, additional studios in Dallas, Houston, and Austin!”
Stay tuned for more on SoulCycle’s Texas expansion. Something tells us that there are many more DFW studios in our near future, and we’re not mad about it. Join the SoulCycling crew tomorrow, June 4, for a Grand Opening Celebration at their new studio on Northwest Hwy from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with healthy bites, a photo booth, giveaways, and more. RSVP here on Facebook for more details.
