UPDATE on June 2: Bulladora has been canceled due to inclement weather. Tickets will be refunded.
Bulladora‘s formula is fairly simple: think progressively and have as much fun as humanly possible. The founders didn’t chase Top 40 headliners, enter a bidding war with every other festival in the nation, or choose a roots-rock lineup, they curated a pretty awesome indie pop lineup for the first-annual anti-fest. It’s pretty out-of-the-box for a music fest. I mean, where else can you get your morning yoga on, watch live graffiti, chill in a hammock village, build yourself a flower crown, get your nails done by Mspattycake, ride in a hot air balloon, and pet ALL THE PUGS in Dallas (well, almost). Naturally, we were intrigued. Read on for the scoop on Bulladora, coming to a park near you, June 3-5.
We thought it was a pretty cool idea to ask Dallas fashion influencers to mingle over beer and bites at their “Fashion Kickoff Event” a few weeks ago at the gallery of a local street-slash-mixed-media-artist, Wheron. We were asked to put together our favorite festival style look for a photo shoot during the party with Dallas/L.A. based blogger/photographer Yesi Fortuna aka Sukilynn. It was a blast! Check out our look below from N. Henderson bohemian paradise Esther Penn.
Bulladora further fused fashion and music by partnering up with FleaStyle to create a pop-up shop on-site at the music fest. Concert goers can shop ’til they drop, with an opportunity to pick up vintage and handcrafted goods from Texas-based vendors such as Purse & Clutch (Austin, TX), Lee Lewis Designs (Houston, TX), AAVintedge (Tyler, TX), Desert Hide (Dallas, TX), Rachael Creative (Dallas, TX), Milk & Bubbles (Dallas, TX), Blue Jean Baby Vintage (Dallas, TX), Dainty Lion (Dallas, TX), Jade & Clover (Deep Ellum, TX), Maja Jewelry, and Oh Deery Floral (Fort Worth, Texas). “I think there’s a lot more to Dallas than meets the eye – we’ve moved way beyond the teased hair / big boob stereotype,” said Kristin Miller, creative director of Bulladora, who we met while sipping mimosas at FleaStyle and gawking over her gorgeous jewelry collection. “While there’s so much going on in the way of fashion, art, and music, it’s a still a bit inaccessible for the majority of people who aren’t seeking it out. Our grand vision for Bulladora is to shine a light on all the interesting brands and creatives we have here.”
AlunaGeorge (London, U.K.)
Fashion and music go hand-in-hand for London-based pop duo AlunaGeorge. Style icon Aluna Francis starred in Alexander Wang’s Spring/Summer 2016 campaign where the designer casted models and musicians alike as his style muses. Self-described as “sports chic” to WWD, Francis’ unique sense of style is the perfect mix of ladylike and urban. The duo was featured on Disclosure‘s track “White Noise” in 2013 and recently rocked Coachella’s stage with their new track “My Blood” out this April.
MOTHXR (Brooklyn, NY)
Does this five-o-clock-shadow look familiar to you? MOTHXR’s front man is no other than Gossip Girl‘s resident Lonely Boy. Come for the music or come for a close-up view of Penn Badgley’s beautiful face. The indie rock group lives in Brooklyn and recently released their debut album Centerfold this February.
Washed Out (Athens, Georgia)
Hipsters unite! Washed Out aka singer-songwriter/producer Ernest Greene landed the theme song for Portlandia and the rest is history. Often described as part of the “chillwave” movement, Greene released his last record Paracosm in 2013.
Yeasayer (Brooklyn, NY)
The fest’s headliner Yeasayer could be described as experimental rock. It’s easy-to-groove-to music and a perfect cherry on the top to Bulladora’s eclectic indie pop lineup. With a new album Amen & Goodbye out this April, the group released a pop culture-inspired single “Prophecy Gun” with a crazy music video including sculptures of public figures such as Donald Trump, Caitlyn Jenner, and Mark Twain.
Bulladora’s lineup of indie pop royalty is complemented by several on-the-rise local acts such as LEV, Sudie, Rat Rios, ISHI, and Ronnie Heart. For the full lineup and schedule, click here.
