Designer Ashley Nell Tipton became the first contestant on Project Runway to showcase a plus-sized collection for women during Season 14 of the popular fashion competition. Though many designers on the show create clothes for sample sizes, Ashley won the judges’ hearts with practical, comfortable, and stylish designs for full-figured women.
We’re thrilled to announce that Ashley now serves as a brand ambassador for JCPenney‘s new line, Boutique+, a flirty line full of trendy items like the perfect army jacket, off-the-shoulder ruffled tops, a too-cute “Curves Are Trending” tee, and more. The clothes are available in sizes 0x to 4x in stores and on jcp.com in sizes up to 5x. Read on for a few of our favorite styles and a special interview with the designer from her trip on May 14 to JCPenney Stonebriar to launch her newest collab.
DFW Style Daily: What is the inspiration behind your collection?
Ashley Nell Tipton: “Plus size women and their stories inspired me to design for them. After hearing their fashion struggles, I wanted to create merchandise that made them happy so they would be able to wear the latest fashion trends that fit them perfectly.”
Tell us about your merchandise now available at JCPenney.
“I’ve created many statement pieces for fashionistas in their 20s and 30s to fit what’s already in their closet. You’ll see lots of bold colors and fun patterns to fit plus-size women.”What is your favorite thing to wear?
“I love skirts! I have a whole rolling rack of skirts at home. Usually, I pair it with a great jacket and sneakers for the completed look.”
