Continuing a season of sensational showcases for North Texas fashion talent, DFW’s top pop radio station, 103.7 KVIL FM, will soon kick off its first annual high-fashion event KVIL RUNWAY 1037. Hosted by KVIL’s own Leigh Ann and Courtney Kerr, along with Steve Kemble, America’s Sassiest Lifestyle Guru, the event will place on Thursday, March 31, at Classic BMW.
The runway showcase will be headed by fashion show producer Willie Johnson (The Pin Show and CBS Radio’s Design & Dine) and curated by the 103.7 KVIL team alongside Johnson and our very own DFW Style Daily publisher Amber LaFrance. Festivities are set to include a professionally-produced runway show, spirit sampling, gourmet bites and special musical guests. Ericka Jayne from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is set to perform during the event, with a second musical guest to be announced. Five North Texas designers will be showcased, with one taking top honors and a $2,500 Grand Prize.
Today at DFW Style Daily we have the inside SCOOP on which designers the team has chosen to represent North Texas on the runway. Featured lines at this year’s competition will include Smith II by Charles Smith II, Dapper Rebel by Eric Renteria, Enchanted by Lauralee Stewart, Erica Dawn Woodmore and Symbology by Marissa Heyl. Get to know the local designers below and we’ll see you at the big event!
Fashion designer Charles Smith II is known for sportif silhouettes with serious sex appeal. Over the past year and a half, he has presented several complete collections at both independently produced events and regional collective shows. Comprising custom evening and striking daywear looks for men and women, each range holds true to a largely black and white palette. What sets his garments apart are the details – leather, mesh, exposed zippers and an occasional hint of skin.
Dallas-based designer Eric Renteria of Etiquette Vintage Design has showcased collections at Austin Fashion Week and on the New York Fashion Week runway in 2013. Obsessed with fashion, history and sports, his signature varsity collection (inspired by the letterman sweater) has been seen on celebrities like Donald Glover (Childish Gambino), Lenda Dunham (Girls) and more. The new Dapper Rebels collection gives modern flair to an old school vintage look.
Waco-based Baylor University student Lauralee Stewart created the Enchanted line for her senior project. Inspired by the idea of a modern fairy tale, the line is inspired by the designer’s love or fantasy and time period costumes. Bringing these costumes to life in the form of modern outfits for women, the pieces showcase shimmery sheer details in modern silhouettes.
Erica Dawn Woodmore
Designer Erica Dawn Woodmore prides herself on creating high-quality, high-impact separates worn with minimal effort. Through two distinct lines – EDW Collection and Luxe Comfort– and a loyal custom client list, Woodmore weaves statement-making pieces with classic silhouettes to create transitional pieces that carry from day to evening.
Imagined by designer Marissa Heyl in India after researching her anthropology thesis project assessing the impact of fair trade on artisan women, Dallas-based line Symbology is an ethical fashion label that fuses artisan textiles with fashion-forward designs to bring authentic apparel to the boutique market. Featuring gorgeous bohemian designs and fairly sourced textiles, the line was the perfect way for her to combine her lifelong passion for fashion design and women’s rights.
