By definition, a hidden gem is a treasure of great value, just waiting to be discovered. ES Collection Dallas is an ideal example in the category of men’s fashion. Barcelona born, designer crafted and affordably priced, the store’s been a well-kept secret – until now. Today, consider that secret spilled.
Bearing the initials of designer Eduardo Suñer, ES Collection first launched with swimwear in 2006, drawing upon the founder’s long family history in the Spanish fashion industry. Today, the burgeoning brand includes sportswear, swimwear, denim and more, reflecting the European hallmarks of high quality fabric and attention to detail.
In 2013, locals Chris Lynch and Mark Milburn brought ES Collection to Dallas with the debut of their store at 3926 Cedar Springs Road. The location represents one of only three stateside spots to carry the line. Step inside to reveal not only well-made wardrobe staples for any day of the week, but swimwear and Mediterranean-ready resort styles just waiting to heat up your next vacation.
Read on for insight on the brand from co-owner Chris Lynch. We’ll also learn about how ES Collection Dallas contributes to the community, and why this Wednesday’s Cedar Spring Wine Walk is the perfect time to stop by:
DFW STYLE DAILY: First things first, you became fans of ES Collection before you went into business with the brand. What first attracted you as shoppers and fashionable men?
CHRIS LYNCH: “Our first experience was with ES Swim. The brand’s distinctive designs stood out from the crowd, due to fine detailing and workmanship. As we learned more about ES, we collected more athletic and underclothes for our own wardrobes, and we were consistently impressed with the feel and movement of the materials and European styling.”
What do you see as the primary characteristics of the ES look?
“The ES look is effortless and fashionable. Eduardo takes staple items that we all need, like jeans, tees, shorts and jackets, and adds pops of detail. It really makes fashion easy and fun – you can throw something on and go!”
Speaking of which, tell us more about the designer, Eduardo. What is it like working with a European designer from your home base in Texas?
“Eduardo believes in local brand ownership and local creation. He uses his family’s factories in Barcelona to create every design, and the same philosophy extends to his store owners. He considers us all ‘family,’ and is very interested in our feedback. In fact, many of our collaborative ideas have been integrated into ES designs, such as lengthening the swim shorts to better suit the American aesthetic.
“Eduardo is also very supportive of our local community. Every year, he works to help create and ship, at no cost to anyone, shirts for our local charities. We are currently awaiting shipment of our new Dallas Red Foundation shirts. They’ll be revealed on February 27, and are projected to raise almost $5,000 for organizations in the North Texas area that serve individuals affected by HIV/AIDS.”
From the perspective of the shopper, you pride yourselves on excellent customer service. Explain how a visit to ES Collection is different and better than a chain or department store.
“We see each client as a guest, and we see ES Collection Dallas as our home. Further, we believe words have power, and that is why we call our associates ‘Fashion Stylists.’ They are empowered to educate our guests on color and cut, with the goal of helping them find just the right look.”
Tell us about a few items that are perennial favorites with your clients.
“Our collections are made in small runs, and as a result, there are few styles that recur from year to year. That being said, last winter we introduced a zip-front sweater that sold very well. We reintroduced another small batch this winter, and they have already sold out!
“As the warmer months approach, our guests do seem to be drawn to our tank tops and resort-style shorts. Also, summer sees many of our clients picking up our swim for cruise and tropical vacations, as well as pool parties. All year round, our athletic collections appeal to the man who wants to look good when he pops into the coffee shop, and our smart casual collection is ideal for the man who works at a more laid-back office.”
This year marks the tenth anniversary of ES Collection. How is the brand continuing to evolve?
“The biggest evolution in ES Collection will continue to be in smart casual apparel. I can see the brand continuing to add new pieces to bring ES Collection into the casual workplace. Of course, in keeping with Eduardo’s commitment to quality and fashion-forward design, research and development will continue in an effort to make existing styles better and better!”
Just for fun, is there a celebrity or Hollywood star that embodies the ES look?
“Joe Manganiello goes from casual to sporty in a blink, and he is not afraid of color. He would look great in ES Collection.”
Finally, tell us about a few exciting things coming up for the store.
“Spring is just around the corner, and we have some amazing new swimwear arriving from Barcelona the first week of February. This will be our second season to focus on board shorts, and I love the new vibrant prints.
We also have multiple events and collaborations lined up, starting with the Cedar Springs Wine Walk this Wednesday, February 3, from 6 – 9 p.m. How can you go wrong with 19 merchants and restaurants, all serving wine, for a fabulous cause? Hope to see you there!”
