Having recently marked its first anniversary in the Dallas Design District, LAB ART Texas may be responsible for our city’s many heat waves over the past year. Within a visually arresting gallery near the corner of Dragon and Cole Streets, this hot Lone Star expansion of the Los Angeles-based original boasts the second largest collection of street art in the nation.
Last month, LAB ART Texas co-founders Adam Persiani and Eric Rosiak took us on an insider’s tour of their favorite Big D haunts. Today, we have news of LAB ART Texas’ coming exhibition of the work of Tyler Shields. Opening this Saturday, a solo show from the man dubbed “Hollywood’s favorite photographer” is not to be missed.
Born in Florida and now based in Los Angeles, Tyler Shields (pictured above) honed his unmistakable style by directing music videos for skateboarding legend Tony Hawk. The multidisciplinary artist went on to work with the likes of Lindsey Lohan, Emma Roberts, Aaron Paul, Zachary Quinto, Juno Temple, and Francesca Eastwood on photographic projects that tempt and provoke in equal measure.
Shields’ talent for shocking audiences to attention extends to books and filmmaking, as well. Notably, he directed the recent film Final Girl, starring Abigail Breslin and Wes Bentley. Beautifully disturbing, we wouldn’t recommend screening it alone. And for anyone who ever wanted to take a chainsaw to that most outrageous symbol of conspicuous consumption, the Birkin bag, well, he beat you to the punch.
Given all of the above, and so much more, the fact that LAB ART Texas will soon host a solo show for Tyler Shields is a cool coup for the Dallas art scene, indeed. The exhibition opens with a bang this Saturday, November 14. Starting at 8 p.m., we anticipate the opening will attract a who’s who among local trendsetters. Thereafter, the show runs through Saturday, December 19. Visit our Event Calendar for details on LAB ART’s Tyler Shields Exhibition Opening.
