Fashion Industry Gallery (FIG) represents the top Dallas stop for buyers seeking a curated, fashion-forward selection of contemporary, bridge sportswear and accessories.
Including 60 of the industry’s top showrooms from Los Angeles, New York, and Dallas, as well as an additional 30,000 square feet of temporary space, this boutique wholesale fashion venue hosts five markets and multiple top tier events annually. In addition, Fashion Industry Gallery opens its doors to the public once per year for the legendary FIG Finale Sale.
Celebrity guest designers visit FIG during spring and fall markets, drawing the attention of media, store owners, and trendsetting Dallasites. Past guests have included none other than Cynthia Vincent, Trina Turk, Whitney Port, and Jay Godfrey. Last week, Emily Schuman of Cupcakes and Cashmere (pictured above) brought a taste of her elegant, elevated style. Via private tour and reception, a special group of Dallas influencers received the FIG VIP treatment, plus time to confer with Schuman on the secrets of her success.
Emily Schuman, founder of Cupcakes and Cashmere, is a pioneer in the field of professional blogging. Launched in 2008, her fashion, food, décor, and lifestyle website now boasts five million views per month. Schuman is also a best-selling author with two titles to her credit, including 2012’s Cupcakes and Cashmere: A Guide for Defining Your Style, Reinventing Your Space, and Entertaining With Ease, and her new book, Cupcakes and Cashmere at Home.
Emily’s brand partnerships have included Coach, Juicy Couture, and Estée Lauder. Through the years, the former Domino and Teen Vogue staffer has utilized her media acumen and impeccable sense of style to build a brand known for elevating everyday life to fashionable new heights.
In 2013, Schuman collaborated with clothing brand BB Dakota to create the Cupcakes and Cashmere Collection. Carried first at Nordstrom and Shopbop, the line includes dresses, separates, and jackets, hallmarked by feminine patterns and classic silhouettes. Bringing the designer to Dallas, her Spring 2016 Collection was featured at FIG’s Spring 1 Market from October 21 – 23.
On Thursday, October 22, DFW Style Daily was proud to partner with FIG to gather a seriously stylish group of local influencers to the venue. Our special event began with an insider’s tour of FIG, including peeks inside top brand showrooms and a hint at the many perks that FIG provides to its exhibitors and visiting buyers.
Following the tour, this well-heeled group of bloggers, designers, stylists, and trendsetters convened for an intimate meet-and-greet with Emily Schuman. The lady of the hour candidly answered questions from the crowd over wine and cheese. Among her most memorable answers, we couldn’t help but perk our ears to the fact that Schuman swears by no-work weekends, as well as time each evening free from social media. We love that this young mother reinforced the importance of life offline.
Also key from our meet-and-greet was the admission that this appearance at FIG represented Schuman’s very first visit to Dallas. She assured the crowd that it would not be her last, and expressed her observation that the Big D market is key to both established and emerging fashion brands. But of course!
As our private reception came to a close, Schuman, ever gracious, posed for pictures with each guest, as well as answering additional questions. Before departing, she then pointed out a watercolor print chiffon maxi dress and bright hibiscus coral romper as two favorites from her line. Look for these and many more versatile and affordably priced items from the Cupcakes and Cashmere collection in months to come.
Concluding the visit, all then adjourned to FIG’s Fashions in the Park cocktail party. A favorite tradition, the high-spirited party, including refreshments, live music, and plenty of networking, takes place each Thursday of market.
We express our thanks to Fashion Industry Gallery as a most stylish partner, indeed, as well as gratitude to each one of our VIP guests. Without a doubt, Emily Schuman now holds a special place in our hearts – and wardrobes. Indeed, FIG is where the best stores come to find the hottest products.
