Let’s just throw in the towel and call it the year of H&M. Fresh off a major announcement unveiling H&M Beauty last week, the mega retailer drops another bomb in fashion news confirming a high profile designer collaboration with Parisian luxury house Balmain. Led by the young and talented Olivier Rousteing (pictured below), Balmain has floated into pop-culture phenomena, now coveted by the likes of Hollywood celebrities, the social elite, and super models. Charging forward into this newest collab by reference of #HMBalmaination, Rousteing embraces a movement that he hopes will impact the world.
“I want to talk to my generation: this is my main aim as a designer,” Rousteing says. “H&M allows me the unique possibility of bringing everyone into the world of Balmain, get a piece of the dream and create a global #HMBalmaination: a movement of togetherness, fueled on a hashtag. The collaboration felt extremely natural to me: H&M is a brand that everybody connects to. It calls for unity, and I am all for it.”
Founded in 1945, Balmain became an instant pillar embodying French luxury. Known for its energetic and ultra-appealing flair, the brand soared to new heights in 2011 when the then 25-year-old Olivier Rousteing took the reins as Creative Director. Staying true to the overall brand concept, Rousteing provided a fresh outlook for Balmain by merging its couture DNA with that of showbiz flair. Attracting the likes of Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, and super model Jourdan Dunn, Rousteing is capitalizing on the influence of both pop culture and social media to drive Balmain to the forefront.
“We are excited to have Balmain as our guest designer at H&M and create a truly involving experience for everybody,” says Ann-Sofie Johansson, Creative Advisor at H&M. “With its mix of couture spirit and streetwear attitude, Balmain owns a unique style, at once opulent and direct, sensual and energetic. It is also closely linked to the show business and music worlds, which adds another element of surprise.”
Mark your calendars for November 5, as this newest designer collab is set to take over 250 H&M stores worldwide and online.
