Dallas Culinary Creative Shahla Niazi Fires Up Hotspots for Food & Fashion

We love a list, and a (Secret) Local List is even better. Today, DFW Style Daily's exclusive series continues with shopping, dining, and entertainment picks from a Dallas-based culinary pro.

Growing up in her grandmother’s kitchen, Shahla Niazi (pictured above) developed a distinct palate for international delicacies through the power of well-crafted cuisine. The “sacred recipes” passed down to Niazi, unlocked flavorful mysteries within many foods. Given these revelations, Niazi ultimately mastered the art of combining and balancing unexpected ingredients for an all-out savory cuisine. In 2014, fueled by her culinary discoveries, she turned her family’s legacy in the kitchen into an aptly named, and wildly popular cookbook, Shahla’s Kitchen: Cooking with Fire and Ice.

Focusing on delectable nutrition, the first-time author turns healthy fare into savory, satisfying meals. We caught up with the cookery creative, and now she’s exclusively dishing her go-to destinations and appetizing venues she’s craving most in Dallas this season.

Foodie Favorite: Mesmerized by the “wonderful atmosphere,” Niazi delights in Dragonfly -- Hotel ZaZa’s well-appointed eatery.  “There are so many delicious dishes to choose from, but my favorite is the glazed beef tenderloin,” she confesses.

Go-To Boutique or Retail Therapy Destination: The Cooking with Fire and Ice author admitted an affinity for posh Plano shopping, explaining, “The Shops at Legacy is the best place, whether I’m looking for a great gift idea or simply spoiling myself!”

Artistic Addictions: “It might sound strange, but I’m always inspired by eclectic, ethnic supermarkets. I hunt for imported goods or unusual fruits and veggies you can’t find anywhere else,” noted Niazi, adding that Jusgo Supermarket in North Dallas is her top stop.

Best Buys: Niazi turns to a Southern department store staple to discover budget-friendly finds. Channeling her inner "modern Southern style" she dishes, “I’m all about Belk; I love it! You can find absolutely anything for any occasion for the best price.”

I Heart Dallas: “Downtown McKinney is my go-to place for a memorable day or night out,” Niazi notes. “It is filled with history and exceptional antique shops.”   Shahla Niazi top image used courtesy of the subject.
