It’s Fashion Week mayhem here at DFW Style Daily as we continue our coverage leading up to the week-long spectacular. Just yesterday, we reported breaking news outlining a chain of unfortunate changes for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and its organizers. Not long after our spirits were asunder, we received uplifting news that Dallas designer Esé Azénabor will present at the New York Fashion Week Affinia Hotel locale — marking this as the first ever NYFW appearance for the flourishing designer.
We at DFW Style Daily have followed Esé Azénabor for years, first hitting our radar at a private showcase at Hotel ZaZa in 2013. Just last year, her sparkling creations graced the runway yet again at her theatrical Phantom of the Runway presentation at downtown’s Fashion Industry Gallery. Bringing the 2014 year to a close, the talented designer was one of many stunners at the first ever Fashion X Dallas, making her a force to be reckoned with in the realm of luxury formalwear design. Keeping the momentum going, the young designer took to her social media on January 6 to announce her participation in February’s NYFW, and frankly we couldn’t be more excited.
“I am beyond excited yet nervous at the same time,” Azénabor (pictured above) exclusively dishes to DFW Style Daily. “I have always prayed that one day our collection will be showcased to the New York market at [Fashion Week], but I would have never imagined for it to become a reality this soon. We are sure that this new collection will be the most intriguing.”
Azénabor is known for presenting an extensive collection — touting a 44-look presentation at Phantom of the Runway last summer and another comprehensive showcase at last November’s Fashion X Dallas. While the designer remained mum on just how many looks would be in her Fall/Winter 2015 collection, she did provide teasers of what to expect. Channeling inspiration from the late Henry VIII, the gifted designer hinted towards an obvious continuation of her signature beading and embellishments, but also “embroidered Jacquard/brocade garments” that are rich in deep colors and fabric textures.
The New York Fashion Week show will be produced by The Fashion Gallery NY, the Affinia Manhattan Hotel, and Mastercard, which has been approved by the CFDA — a rather big deal given the last several months of ups and downs with the Fashion Week forum. The Affinia Manhattan location will host over 20 designer showcases, including both Leanne Marshall and Korto Momolu from Lifetime’s Project Runway, Wes Gordon, and many more.
The Esé Azénabor Fall/Winter 2015 collection hits the runway on February 13 at 12 p.m., and an outpouring of support is already bubbling here in Dallas for the blossoming designer. Strategically aiming for an international presence, Azénabor is more than confident that her collection will capture the New York audience, just as it has done here in Dallas over the course of the last several years.
“No matter how long you’re in the business, I strongly believe we learn new things about fashion and design everyday,” the designer explains. “During New York Fashion Week, I hope to learn more about the fashion world, design, trends, and culture. My goal is to take all [of] that knowledge back to Dallas for another amazing collection.”
