Just fresh off the heels of last week’s call for designers for one of North Dallas’ upcoming designer showcases, comes yet another request for entries by one of the largest family-owned and operated chain of department stores in the nation, Belk.
Founded in 1888 and headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, Belk boasts approximately 300 locations throughout the southern United States, and some $4.4 billion in annual sales. Since the debut of its Galleria Dallas flagship location on March 29, the southern based department store has garnered much interest from Dallas customers and shows even greater promise for a long-lasting future in the Dallas market.
For its third Southern Designer Showcase, Belk seeks emerging talent that embodies the brand and its heritage. Detailed in entry materials is the contest’s mission:
“Belk is thrilled to give a new group of emerging fashion designer’s the opportunity to have their designs sold alongside today’s top names in fashion. Since 2012, Belk has sought talented fashion designers for its Southern Designer Showcase competition. Belk is proud of its history as a family-owned retailer and is dedicated to finding new talent to contribute to the Modern, Southern, Style our customers love.”
The competition in 2013 honored 13 winning designers (some pictured above), selected from nearly 300 entries spanning women’s clothing, jewelry, handbags, and children’s apparel. Currently, the winners’ collections are available online and in store at select Belk locations.
Dallas’ own Lucy Dang (pictured below) walked away a winner at the 2013 competition, landing her a spotlight for her Lady by Lucy Dang collection at not only the Galleria Dallas location, but at additional Belk stores nationwide. The Texas Next Top Designer winner has showcased her collection at Belk flagship locations since this past Spring, with her in store merchandise being worth a total of $1 million dollars.
Sounds like another fabulous opportunity for talented young designers. Interested?
The deadline for 2015 entries is February 2, 2015 – so there’s no time to waste. Visit Belkdesigncontest.com for the contest application and additional details.
