Seeds of Africa Kicks Off ‘Year of Dreams’ with Dallas Gala on October 22
Earlier this year, we introduced you to Atti Worku, an inspiring beauty with global goals. Come October 22, we in Dallas will be offered the opportunity to support her mission to improve the lives of children in her home country of Ethiopia. Read on for the back story, plus your personal invite to the Chefs and Seeds Dallas Gala.
A native of Adama, Ethiopia, Atti Worku began modeling half a world away. A trip to Dallas to visit family then launched her career with The Campbell Agency, including high-profile clients such as Neiman Marcus and Stanley Korshak, as well as runway work with top producers. For the former Miss Ethiopia, however, a future giving back to her home community was always part of the plan.
In 2005, Atti founded Seeds of Africa. Now based in New York City, the recent Columbia University graduate has dedicated her life to improving the lives of children in Ethiopia, and beyond, through education.
“Our main goal at Seeds of Africa is to use education as a tool, or weapon, to fight poverty and to improve the livelihood of underprivileged children, young adults, and their families,” Worku explains. “We believe that education changes lives, and that it is one of the most important components of life. By providing access and improving the quality of education, we can change many lives for the better.”
Fall 2014 begins the Seeds of Africa “Year of Dreams,” with an international series of gala fundraisers kicking off here in Dallas next month. Each event will bring the non-profit closer to building its “Dream School” in Adama, Ethiopia.
The Chefs and Seeds Dallas Gala takes place Wednesday, October 22 at 3015 Trinity Groves. Against the picture postcard skyline backdrop of Dallas’ newest dining and entertainment district, over a dozen of our city’s best chefs will serve culinary creations to a very haute crowd. Set to music by the King Bucks, a mobile silent auction, sumptuous sips, and much more, will complete a night of meaningful merriment – and you are invited. Click here for additional details and ticketing ($150).
