For so many, a visit to Neiman Marcus just isn’t complete without a true taste of luxury. As any lucky soul who has indulged in a warm, golden popover, glistening with melting strawberry butter, can attest, the Dallas retailer extends its legendary attention to detail to its memorable menus. Launching next week, a new book puts the recipes behind Neiman’s restaurant success at the home cook’s fingertips.
Chef Kevin Garvin recently celebrated 20 years heading the culinary program at Neiman Marcus, and it’s been over a decade since his Neiman Marcus Cookbook bowed. By popular demand, the brand-new Neiman Marcus Cooks from Rizzoli revisits classics and debuts new delights, just in time for fall entertaining and holiday gifting.
“A good cook is someone who understands how to build on flavors to create a meal that satisfies everyone around the table,” Garvin writes in a personal introduction to Neiman Marcus Cooks. “Family mealtime…served as the basis of my decision to become a chef.”
In the spirit of this belief that everyone should find their favorites on the menu, Cooks features both standbys and new creations. Formulas for the aforementioned popovers, as well as Tuna Pecan Salad and Mandarin Orange Soufflé, hold fast through the test of time. Additions, many from Neiman’s healthy ‘Go Figure’ program, bring new tastes to the table, such as Bay of Fundy Salmon with Brussels Sprouts and Farro.
In all, dozens of hors d’oeuvres, soups, entrées, salads, and desserts are detailed in the 153-page stunner. Temptingly photographed, the recipes are presented with preparation tips and wine pairing suggestions. Consider this the new go-to gift for any fine food aficionado on your list.
Chef Kevin Garvin will appear at Neiman Marcus NorthPark Center next Tuesday, September 16 to greet guests and sign copies of Neiman Marcus Cooks. Stop by the Shoe Salon on Level Two between noon and 4 p.m. For additional information and location details, please visit our Event Calendar.
