Some still feel the sting of the stateside hiatus of Fashion’s Night Out. Oh, the memories! Though no worldwide party – and growing designer disillusionment – means less hype surrounding its kick-off, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week will begin in New York City this Thursday, September 4.
Continuing through next Thursday, September 11, Lincoln Center and select additional venues throughout the Big Apple will host the Spring 2015 collections of 78 designers and brands. That number reflects a drop in participation in recent years, down from a total near 90 in 2010. The New York Times cites a “negatively distracting” atmosphere, overrun with spectators and overwhelmed by theatrics, for this continuing decline.
All told, however, on-the-ground attendance in the six-figure range and millions of web impressions worldwide are expected throughout the week. Designers of note showing at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week this fall include Ralph Lauren, Tory Burch, Reem Acra, Pamella Roland, J. Mendel, and many more. Though bold-face names like Diane von Furstenberg, and new favorites including Christian Siriano, have decamped for more intimate environs, producer IMG promises an “unparalleled level of brand exposure” for the talent which remains loyal to Lincoln Center.
We here at DFW Style Daily will be keeping close tabs on the scene and shows, with Contributor Leah Frazier on location in New York City. For a full schedule, photos, and videos, visit MBFashionWeek.com.
