Who among us doesn’t recall an innocent wish as a plain ol’ kid to transform into a fairy princess or a handsome prince? While paper crowns and foil wings are one thing, we’ve discovered a Dallas designer who is making some real-life wishes come true.
One glimpse at the creations of Loren Franco, and her talent for accessing that most imaginative corner of the mind is unmistakable. Look closer, and fine details reveal a second skill for intricate construction. Hard to believe this local mom couldn’t even use a sewing machine a few years ago. Departing a corporate job in the financial sector, Franco embarked on a career in fashion design in 2011; today, her creativity is clearly blooming.
“I have always felt that I should never limit myself when it comes to creativity,” Franco (pictured above) explains. “As designer I draw inspiration from the past but, I love to put my own unique take on it.”
These twists might come in the form of cascading calla lilies embellishing a traditional flower girl’s gown, or a Midas-touched blazer for a dashing young gent. Rock-and-roll influences from the ‘70s and ‘80s also receive the Franco treatment. Though her clients are small, the concepts are grand.
Tiny Little Red Riding Hood and Queen of Hearts costumes, just to name two, plus darling special occasion dresses, and more, are available on Franco’s website. Custom work is just an email – and flash of the imagination – away. Lucky for grown-ups and older siblings, Franco has also recently expanded into women’s wear and junior’s clothing, as well. After all, even the most buttoned-up types love a fashion fantasy.
Of her newest line, the designer notes, “The collection is called ‘Juvenescence’ – Forever Young. I selected peacock colors, which represent my transformation as a designer. It is a celebration of life, and the transformation from creating children’s wear to adult clothing.”
Continuing the theme of celebrating life, Franco and husband Edward will host their first annual Reaching For The Stars Fashion Show on Saturday, September 20, benefiting Make-A-Wish North Texas. Taking place at the Cavanaugh Flight Museum, Reaching For The Stars will include Franco’s newest creations, and will feature real-life Wish Kids on the runway.
