As the new kid on the block, on a block filled with shopping options, Belk is fast proving to be a go-to source for both wardrobe staples and designer finds in Big D.  

  The largest family owned and operated fleet of department stores in the nation started off with a splash at Galleria Dallas, revealing an extensive overhaul of the three-story, 170,000 square foot anchor space at the north end of the shopping center upon its March 29, 2014 debut. Beyond that glittering, waterfall mosaic entrance, we were wowed with an irresistible array of brands on our first official visit. In the months to follow, Belk’s booming local presence included a Cynthia Rowley-headlined Girls Night Out, among other notable appearances, plus a stellar showing in DFW Style Daily’s latest fashion editorial. Just last week, Belk Fashion Director Arlene Goldstein proved once again to have her finger on the pulse of “Modern Southern Style,” revealing her top trends and buys for the season to come in a presentation to local editors, tastemakers, and bloggers. Read on and take notes – these lists are not to be missed.  

  First up, Goldstein highlighted three key trends for Fall 2014, including Rebel Rebel, His is Hers, and Complex Simplicity. The first (pictured above) notes edgy details juxtaposed with ladylike wardrobe staples. Think motorcycle jackets and studded boots. Menswear touches are the key to the second trend, and Complex Simplicity equals streamlined silhouettes evoking 90’s era minimalism. Under the umbrella of this trend trio, Goldstein then handpicked ten key items to add to fall wardrobes. The must-have list rolls out below:     1. Creative Cardigan 2. Longer Skirt 3. Soft Pant       4. Fashion Sweatshirt 5. Tunic Top         6. Novelty Vest 7. Midi Length Sheath         8. Statement Neck 9. Over-the-Knee Boots           10. Satchel       While all of the above would equal solid additions to any fall wardrobe, we’ll admit special preference for the soft pant and fashion sweatshirt. Easy, drawstring trousers, like this pair by Calvin Klein, can dress up or down. An embellished sweatshirt completes a sportif look that is very forward-thinking, indeed.
