Cowboy boots, oversized hats, and gaudy jewelry are the typical clichés of what represents Big D, but a new Henderson Ave boutique is putting an artful twist on Western style for the modern woman.
Cushioned cozily on the corner of Henderson Avenue and Milam Street, Melissa Benge Collection (“MBC”) overflows with rare and diverse apparel, jewelry, and art décor, all hand-selected by owner Melissa Benge. Open less than a year, the boutique is one of three Texas stores for the conceptual designer, joining Gunslinger and Graceful, both in Bandera. Previously the home of Alamo Glass and Mirrors, the 4,000 square foot MBC space has been completely renovated to showcase rustic flair.
Benge describes the selection at MBC as a combination of “sassy Bohemian” and “vintage French romantic.” She travels globally to source her covetable finds, revealing exclusively to DFW Style Daily that her upcoming buying excursions include trips to London, Ireland, Paris, and Provence. In these culture-rich locales, she’ll be searching for “vintage treasures from Europe with an Americana twist.” In addition to her international trove of discoveries, MBC also features Benge’s personal jewelry and clutch designs, as well as private MBC label aromatherapy and bath products.
As Melissa Benge embarks on her month-long European buying tour, we anticipate even more apparel, jewelry, and accessories will be added to the current MBC mix for upcoming seasons. Owing to its unique aesthetic, Benge and MBC will continue push the boundaries beyond typical Western wear and décor. To our eye, this find is emerging as one of Dallas’ newest hidden treasures.
