Belk Flagship Opens March 29 at Galleria Dallas

Over a year of watching, waiting, and updating will finally culminate in the debut of a brand-new Belk flagship at Galleria Dallas on Saturday, March 29.

In January 2013, Galleria Dallas dropped a retail bombshell with the announcement of the departure of Saks Fifth Avenue. The move ended a run of some 30-plus years in Big D for the New York-based luxury retailer, and kicked off a an extensive overhaul of the vast, three-story, 170,000 square foot anchor space at the north end of the shopping center.

Set to take Saks’ place was an unexpected regional favorite, Belk. The largest family owned and operated fleet of department stores in the nation, Belk offers mid-priced apparel and accessories, as well as home goods, shoes, and children’s clothing. Though it currently operates over a dozen stores in Texas, most are located in outlying areas such as Lufkin, Greenville, and Waco. Dallasites, largely unfamiliar with the brand, were cautiously curious about the new Galleria addition. Belk, meanwhile, saw a bright future here in Big D.

“We always knew we wanted to have a big presence in Dallas,” explained Arlene Goldstein, Belk Vice President of Trend Merchandising, to DFW Style Daily’s Abby Gregory. “When the right location came up, we were eager to grab such a perfect opportunity!”

In fact, for this project alone, Belk and Galleria Dallas together invested some $20 million in renovations to the site. For example, earlier this year we reported the addition of a 68-foot blue glass tile mosaic entrance facing Dallas Parkway. The installation lends a luxe, waterfall-like look to Belk’s façade (pictured at top).

But splashy décor is only half the story. Will Belk’s merchandise mix please the Dallas customer? We optimistically predict an answer of yes.

Also included in Abby Gregory’s interview with Arlene Goldstein, the fashion industry veteran hinted at a “fantastic, expanded selection” of clothing and accessories at the new Galleria Dallas flagship. In keeping with the store’s focus on “Modern Southern Style,” the mix will include Cynthia Rowley, Betsey Johnson, and Tracy Reese, as well as jewelry and accessory favorites such as Michael Kors, Coach, Ray-Ban, Fossil, and Alex and Ani. Dallas designer Lucy Dang’s new collection, Lady by Lucy Dang, will also be showcased.

And all can be explored in person, at long last, when Belk’s Galleria Dallas flagship debuts on Saturday, March 29. The soft opening will be followed by an official in-store grand opening event on Wednesday, April 9 – but you know we’ll be checking out the store as soon as possible.

To that end, we’re noting a few key details as we plan our opening day mission: Belk is located adjacent to Nordstrom on the north end of Galleria Dallas (13350 Dallas Parkway) and nearest parking is in the Orange Garage. The store layout is as follows:
