Mario Testino’s “Alta Moda” Exhibition To Open In Dallas This September
Excitement has finally waned following the Chanel Paris-Dallas Métiers d’Art Show last December, so the local fashion scene is primed for a new haute happening. We’ve received word of yet another high profile event headed for Big D, no less than famed fashion photographer Mario Testino’s “Alta Moda” exhibition.
Mario Testino (pictured above) is legendary, and his work resonates deeply within multiple industries. For the last three decades, the sought-after photographer has accomplished incomparable milestones. From capturing unforgettable images of the late Princess Diana for Vanity Fair to exclusively photographing multiple royal weddings and countless editorials for Vogue, Mario Testino is a household name in the realms of fashion, media, and photography.
His “Alta Moda” exhibition is both personal and intimate. A native Peruvian himself, the photographs on display (example below) are the compilation of five years of Testino’s travels in Peru. They document the vibrancy and character of the country through traditional and festive dress. Testino, while proudly noting that this exhibition strays from his usual high fashion works, explained to Paris Vogue, “It’s a tribute to traditional Peruvian costumes, to their embroideries, their colors, the fabrics that are still worn in the Andes. I wanted to pay tribute to the richness of traditional clothing, to which the Peruvians are very attached.”
The U.S. premiere of “Alta Moda” (or “High Fashion”) hit New York City late last year, and was attended by Anna Wintour, Oscar de la Renta, and Sarah Jessica Parker. Media outlet Azure Azure, among other local sources, reports that the 27-photograph exhibit, remaining on display in the Big Apple through March 29, is headed to Dallas in September. These early reports indicate the Dallas Contemporary will host the show.
Indeed, Dallas has evolved into a destination in high demand for all things fashion. Recent highlights include Jean Paul Gaultier: From The Sidewalk To The Catwalk at the Dallas Museum of Art in 2011 and the aforementioned Chanel Métiers d’Art Show in December 2013. The honor of hosting Mario Testino’s exhibition is one that our city will greet with signature style and hospitality.
While details are limited at this time, we’ll keep our ears to the ground for additional information on dates and details surrounding Mario Testino’s “Alta Moda.” Stay tuned for updates here at DFWStyleDaily.com.
