Metroplex Sarah Jessica Parker fans had the opportunity to check off a major bucket list item this past Sunday, March 9. The Sex and the City beauty made a stop at Nordstrom NorthPark Center to meet and greet fans in support of her new SJP line of shoes and accessories. True, many braved the cooler weather conditions in their trendiest attire (and dragged along complaining husbands) for a chance to meet their fashion idol, but crowds failed to swell to point of pandemonium predicted. In fact, the scene was downright dismal compared to Kendall and Kylie Jenner’s appearance at the same location in 2013.
Although some die-hard SJP fans arrived at Nordie’s as early as 2 a.m., others trickled in around 7 a.m. Despite a line wrapping around the building as opening time approached, a Nordstrom sales associate was overheard lamenting that Parker’s numbers were “not as crazy as the Kardashians.” Referring to Kim, Khloé, and Kourtney’s little sisters Kendall and Kylie, he also noted that the lines for the E! Network reality stars were “much longer times ten.”
Even so, an hour before the doors opened, rumors began to circulate that attendance had reached capacity. Only a select few shoppers, it was heard, would get to meet Sarah Jessica Parker, and for those who had not purchased shoes or accessories from the SJP collection, the chance of meeting the star was slim to none. Not missing a beat, Nordstrom staffers then emerged from the store toting boxes to sell to empty-handed fans. Above, blogger Cris Zaragoza of My Fashion Juice partakes in the sidewalk sale.
Once inside, fantasies became reality for some of SJP’s biggest fans. A few were noticeably shaking. When the petite and bubbly actress emerged, an explosion of screams and applause erupted throughout the store.
After shedding a few tears and proclaiming a couple of cliché Hello Lovers! to the crowd, Parker then autographed her way through hundreds of shoes for her supporters. Among the more colorful connections, an impromptu prom date request was overheard, as well as an offer for a custom closet installation by a Container Store employee. Throughout it all, the star remained poised, and appeared humbled by the loving attention from her fans.
Notable crowd favorites from the SJP Collection included the t-strap Carrie pumps in nude ($355) and the Anna sandal in coral ($345). Curious, we stole a quick peek under Parker’s table and spied her own Tanny pumps in French navy ($350). The shoes were slipped over stirrup leggings, a playful addition noted by several fans who vowed to spread the trend immediately.
A lower-priced item from the collection, the Cherry suede flip-flops, were also a surprising hit, though they seemed outrageously overpriced at $195. The amount, however, didn’t phase one devotee who gushed, “This is the most expensive pair of flip flops that I have ever bought, but you know what, it’s Carrie Bradshaw!”
As time ticked on, a nearby agent made hurried attempts to wrap up the event, but Parker remained all smiles. In fact, she stayed an extra hour in order to meet and greet as many shoppers as possible. And so, despite a less-than-overwhelming turnout, many Dallasites were able to spend a day in Sarah Jessica Parker’s shoes.
