Anime Star Trina Nishimura Confesses Local Fashion Obsessions

She may have been born a California girl, but for Dallas’ Trina Nishimura, there’s no place like her adopted hometown. After becoming a child star in community theater productions around North Texas, this UNT grad is now all grown up with an international anime film fan base. Currently wrapping her most challenging voice role to date for FUNimation’s February release, Nishimura took a rare break to talk fashion with DFW Style Daily. Below, she confesses the wardrobe obsession that has her shining at movie premieres across the country. She’ll also reveal the find that had celebs including Rose McGowan and Gillian Anderson clamoring for designer dish.

The Obsession: Nishimura craves the creations of Dallas-based artists and designers. The Confession: Sharing her locals-only policy, Nishimura enthused, “I eat locally, I shop locally, and I’m very loyal to local designers like Lindsey Owen, Stephen Hartzler, Cassie MacGregor, and Abi Ferrin!”

The Rationalization: “Going local is the simplest – and most stylish – way to give back to and be a part of the community I love,” the star explained. “By choosing to source finds from Dallas’ exceptional artists, we elevate our city by promoting the incredibly talented creatives who live and work here.” The Collection: On a mission to prove that “shopping responsibly doesn’t have to mean wandering around in potato sacks and Tevas,” Nishimura stocks up on Lindsey Owen’s bright necklaces. She also favors Stephen Hartzler’s raw, recycled cuffs, House of MacGregor cocktail hats, and award show-worthy frocks by Abi Ferrin. In fact, Ferrin’s Nikki 5-Way dress drew the attention of Rose McGowan and Gillian Anderson on a recent red carpet.

Shop It: Find Nishimura’s favorite artists online to purchase their posh pieces (pictured herein). Snap up the Heart Shields necklace from Owen’s eponymous line, and turn to Hartzler’s label Born Below for industrial, oversized accessories. Head to House of MacGregor for haute hats, and shop Abi Ferrin for dresses and more. All images, credit Chris McKnight. Click here for more DFW Style Daily Obsession Confessions!
