From January 16 – January 26, crowds in excess of 50,000 will trek through the cold and the snow to attend the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. One of the most celebrated film festivals in the world, Sundance attracts not only the Hollywood elite, but many industry hopefuls, fans, journalists, and photographers. And of course, where the celebs roam, there will always be fashion.
Dallas-based jewelry designer Deborah Gaspar received a private invitation to attend this year’s festival to showcase her handcrafted designs to an elite mix of media and celebrity attendees. This week, she’s headed to Park City, poised to represent Dallas and her brand, as well as what can be achieved with hard work, patience, and endless determination.
To those unfamiliar with the Deborah Gaspar jewelry collection, the line is illustrative of the timeless and classic woman. Signature items include handcrafted bangles, multi-strand mother-of-pearl necklaces, and an assortment of mixed metal pieces. A distinguished jewelry designer at Saks Fifth Avenue, and a favorite of the legendary Katie Couric, Deborah Gaspar dished to DFW Style Daily about her amazing Sundance opportunity. DFW Style Daily: When did the Deborah Gaspar jewelry collection officially launch?
Deborah Gaspar: “The brand officially launched on January 10, 2004. I just celebrated my 10th anniversary!”
“Currently, I am doing trunk shows at select Neiman Marcus stores. Trunk shows have been my main focus for years, and I previously did many of these with the Saks Fifth Avenue stores. I am definitely interested in high end boutiques all across the U.S.”
Tell us a little about your celebrity following.
“Katie Couric is a big fan of mine, and then there is Megyn Kelly of Fox News, WFAA Dallas anchor Gloria Campos, actress Jaime Pressly, and recently, Anastasia Roark. Hopefully there will be many more to come after Sundance!”
Congratulations, by the way! And speaking of your trip to the Sundance Film Festival to showcase your collection, how did the opportunity come about?
“Debbie Durkin, CEO of Durkin Entertainment, heard about my collection from several of my clients at Neiman Marcus in Newport Beach, California. Next thing you know, I was invited by Durkin Entertainment to officially participate at their event at Sundance.”
What specifically will be your involvement at the festival?
“I will be participating in the Eco Hideaway Park City event, which is a high-profile, invitation-only, three-day charity event. I will have the opportunity to showcase my jewelry collection to all of the Hollywood stars, producers, and press who will be in attendance.”
This is such a major accomplishment, and a testament to the success of your brand. Are there any future projects or product launches on the horizon?
“I’m going to continue to do trunk shows with Neiman Marcus and many fine boutiques across the country, with a designated focus on resorts and spas. All in all, this gives me the perfect excuse to travel!”
