Founded in 1931 and claimed as the first self-contained shopping center in America, Highland Park Village has evolved from a Dallas hometown stroll into a luxury retail destination. Following its declaration as a National Historic Landmark in 2000, Highland Park Village was purchased by Stephen Summers, Elisa Summers, Ray Washburne, and Heather Washburne in 2009. Its record-setting sale price of $170 million marked the highest total price for a retail property that year. Following the acquisition, as shopping centers nationwide were hit hard by the recession, the Village’s new owners worked to create a tempting, upscale tenant mix. Today, against a familiar backdrop of Spanish arches and stucco, Highland Park Village features many world-class brands. On the heels of this Spring’s designer debut trifecta, including Dior, Alexander McQueen, and Saint Laurent Paris, Highland Park Village’s streak continues with four new, notable names. Brunello Cucinelli officially opened on Thursday, September 19th. From Solomeo, Italy, Cucinelli is known as the “King of Cashmere.” The designer is credited with revolutionizing the market for the luxurious fabric in the years following the line’s 1978 debut. Tom Ford bowed on Thursday, September 26th. This modern day gentleman re-launched his empire in 2006, after a successful run at Gucci. Ford’s secret weapon is a combination of sexy and sexier. As he puts it, “I am my own muse!” James Perse is set to open October 30th. A beach sports fanatic, Perse began his career with baseball caps in 1991. In the years following, he moved on to soft tees, and lines for men, babies, and children. His first retail store opened in 2003 in his hometown of Los Angeles. Finally, Ermenegildo Zegna will debut November 1st. Dating back to 1910, the luxury label specializes in men’s suits crafted of delicate wool fabrics.
