“I won't do anything that I wouldn't want my daughter or son to see.” - Becky Parks
There’s a lot more to modeling than meets the eye. And there’s a heck of a lot more to the models themselves than just fit figures and shiny hair. Welcome to Face Time. DFW Style Daily’s exclusive series gets to know the personalities behind some of Dallas’ most well known faces. Today, flame-haired beauty Becky Parks dishes on modeling misconceptions and recalls a very bumpy (and bloody) assignment. Don’t think for a minute, though, that she’s lost her taste for adventure. Name: Becky Parks Hometown: Coppell, Texas Agency: The Campbell Agency Notable Clients: Glamour, German Marie Claire, German Vogue, Neiman Marcus, Dillard's DFW Style Daily: At what age did you begin modeling? Tell us about your first job. Becky Parks: “I began modeling while in college. My sisters both modeled, and they booked a job for German Marie Claire. The magazine wanted a real Texas vibe. My sisters showed a picture of me on the job, and the client booked me as well. I drove to Lady Bird Johnson's ranch and shot for them.” What do you think is the biggest misconception about the modeling industry? “I think [the biggest misconception is] that it is all smoking and partying and trying to stay thin in an unhealthy way. I think that I have worked a long time in this industry because I stayed away from all of that, and chose healthy ways to watch my figure.” What is the craziest/silliest/most unusual thing you have done on a job? “I work for a client that features a lot of resorts and location shoots. He hires me because I will try anything. I had to ride a mountain bike down a real mountainside, and I went right over the edge into a ravine. I ended up bruised and bloody. Thank goodness nothing was broken, but it could have been really bad.” Are there any deal breakers for you when it comes to job requirements? “I won't do anything that I wouldn't want my daughter or son to see.” What is your dream assignment, or who would be your dream client? “I would love to host a show where I get to do different stunts, like sky diving, hang gliding, and river rafting all over the world.” Do you have a personal role model? What have you learned from her example? “My sister Kelly started modeling for me, and she has always kept me grounded. She always reminded me to be grateful every day.” How would you describe your personal style? Do you have any favorite local shopping spots? “I like to have something unexpected in my outfit, just like designing a room. It needs to have the ‘wow’ factor. I buy [clothes] off of stylists. It saves me the time of shopping.” What did you have for dinner last night? “I had honey mustard chicken – baked, of course - and Caprese salad.” If you had a free afternoon in Dallas, how would you spend it? “My husband, the kids, and I love to go to the lake and wake surf. My son is still little enough that he can surf with me.” All images courtesy of Becky Parks.
