Meet A Dallas Designer Who Dares To Be Rare
Every so often, we un-jade ourselves when something of great beauty in the world of fashion surprises us. One such recent discovery left us pleasantly in awe.
On the heels of extensive international travel seeking fine goods as a buyer for Beretta Gallery, Dallasite Heather Asbury launched a successful interior design firm. Her company, Asbury Interiors, was awarded D Home Best Designer and 2011 IDS Designer of the Year.
Still, the multi-faceted Asbury yearned to explore the realm of fashionable accessories as well. Thus, the creation of Rare Gems of India – and thus, our current state of awe.
Asbury began collecting jewelry when she was just a girl, early to recognize her passion. Today, her style philosophy is glamorous yet wearable. She hand-sketches each of her designs for Rare Gems of India. “I must personally adore something, then I will create it,” she explains.
The designer’s current favorites include her monogrammed cuffs, featuring naturally-shed horn and rough-cut diamonds (shown above). Each is a one-of-a-kind creation, carefully coddled and inspired by the client.
Asbury has always loved a combination of natural elements and embellishments, shaking things up with the juxtaposition of precious and semi-precious stones on earthy backgrounds. Coming up for Fall 2013 are horn and onyx dog tags, customized to mark a special day in the wearer’s life.
Through Rare Gems of India, Heather Asbury has carved a niche of her own. To explore more of the line, visit RareGemsofIndia.com. The designer also meets by appointment. Finally, Dallas just might see Asbury’s wares soon in a high-end retail boutique. Those details are still under wraps.
