Trending: Wear White Whenever (Rules? What Rules?)
|
Yes, Suzy Q, you can wear white year-round. As many proper ladies from decades past gasp, we’re here to report that the old rules no longer apply.
No white before Memorial Day and no white after Labor Day? When were these dates set in stone? Some say that the rule evolved due to the light hue’s ability to keep wearers cooler in the carefree summer months. A color of leisure, it was then relegated to the back of the closet when time came to return to the daily grind. In the 1950′s and 1960’s this fashion dictate was adhered to most stringently, and interestingly enough, it tended only to really apply to the United States.
No matter its origins, however, the “rule” on white has faded over time. What’s more, tempting designer takes on the tone make it irresistible right now. But if you are not yet ready to wear it head to toe, baby steps are acceptable. For a clean and distinct pairing, add the contrast of black. Jennifer Hudson did it perfectly at the Super Bowl (shown above).
Below, we’ll explore more white fashion inspiration – for anytime.
