Hot on the heels of last week’s news of Belk’s upcoming Galleria Dallas flagship debut, today we share the department store chain’s call for entries from southern-based independent designers.
Founded in 1888, Belk is the largest family owned and operated fleet of department stores in the nation. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, the chain boasts 300 locations throughout the southern United States, and some $3.5 billion in annual sales.
For its second Southern Designer Showcase, Belk seeks emerging talent that embodies its brand and heritage. Detailed in entry materials is the contest’s mission:
“We have great partnerships with national brands, but as a Southern based retailer we’re always on the lookout for great brands that represent the talented South. And one way we’re doing that is through our Southern Designer Showcase.”
Last year’s inaugural search honored 15 winning designers, selected from nearly 200 entries spanning women’s clothing, jewelry, children’s clothing, and more. The winners’ collections are available online and at select Belk locations this spring.
Sounds like a fabulous opportunity for talented young designers. Interested?
The deadline for 2013 entries is March 1st – so there’s no time to waste. Visit Belk.com for the contest application and additional details.
