Betsey, Now and Forever
It’s been a rollercoaster year for designer Betsey Johnson. From bankruptcy and boutique closures to scoring an upcoming reality show on the Style Network, the 70-year-old dynamo’s had a 2012 to remember – for better, and for worse. Profiled this week in the New York Times, Johnson declares, “I stick to my guns, my sheaths and my sexpots.” Sipping champagne and nibbling candy while working non-stop, she discusses her upcoming lower-priced department store dress line and new fragrance, Betseyfied. In other words, she ain’t done turning cartwheels just yet.
Fashion Rallies For Sandy Relief
Via The Cut, we learn of a generous $1.7 million raised in the Fashion For Sandy Relief Auction. Organized by Vogue and the CFDA, the effort featured items such as a shopping spree at Tory Burch, a new wardrobe from Vena Cava, and a day at the Met with Anna Wintour (which sounds more like school than fun, if you ask us). Boasting 34 bids, an internship with DKNY PR Girl Aliza Licht was the most popular lot. Proceeds will benefit the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, and additional relief organizations.
Many Creatures Were Stirring
Finally, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana swim with sharks, cross lightsabers with Chewbacca, and send Red Riding Hood traipsing with a stoic stag, all to wish us a very Merry Christmas. The D&G duo’s addictive holiday video is 47 seconds of wonderful wackiness. We dare you to watch it just once. Check it out via YouTube above, and should you still be replaying come noon, don’t say we didn’t warn you.
