Nicole Kwon Wants To Give Dallas A ‘New Edge’

A new addition to Uptown’s West Village shopping center has us a-buzz. The Nicole Kwon Concept Store is open now, and its grand opening event is slated for this Thursday. Our meeting with the store owner last week provided intel on what’s in store for Dallas at this new door.

Owner Nicole Kwon is a well-known name in international fashion. A designer herself, she boasts extensive experience with such designers as Hussein Chalayan and Vivienne Westwood. These labels, among others, will fill her boutique’s inventory.

On the day of our visit, greetings were followed by apologies for the store being in disarray. “We have been so busy, I can’t seem to keep anything in stock,” Kwon explained as she prepared to give us a tour.

Despite the warning, we spied tempting goods for both men and women by Dieppa Restrepo, ALC, and some must-have pieces from Kwon’s former employer Huessein Chalayan. Exclusive to Dallas, Josefina Larsson Stockholm, Shin New York, and Cave Collection, are also represented. We were also thrilled to spot jewelry by local designer Shona Gilbert.

Kwon hopes to make the store a revolving door of style. “The inventory will change every week,” said the new owner, with a curatorial caveat. “I want to carry a selection that’s different from Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue.”

So, what made internationally experienced Kwon choose Big D for her new venture? “I fell in love with Dallas, everyone is so fashionable and glamorous,” she said of our city. ”I also feel it’s hungry for a new edge.”

Moving forward, though its still brand-new, future plans for the store are already being set. “My store used to be an art gallery,” Kwon stated. “I plan to have art displayed by local artists, and I even plan to have an event once a month so costumers can purchase the works.”

Already set for the very near future, this Thursday will mark the official grand opening fête for Nicole Kwon. An in-store reception will start at 6 p.m. and Kwon revealed to us that several of the boutique’s featured designers plan to attend.
