Rodarte Sips Into Starbucks
Though most will pale in comparison to
Target and Neiman’s massive upcoming collection, this holiday season is shaping up to be quite the
collab-a-rama. The latest designer combo news to come down the pike features an unlikely retail partner in
Starbucks. For the caffeinated chain, award-winning, celebrity-favored designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy of
Rodarte will debut a gift collection on November 13th. According to
Businessweek, the range will include mugs and tote bags, as well as a companion gift card design, in a pixelated print.
Banana Boasts New Big Screen Muse
A stylish new film version of Leo Tolstoy’s masterpiece
Anna Karenina, starring Keira Knightley, will hit theaters in November. Those anxious to envelope themselves in the opulent finery of the period film, however, can shop
Banana Republic on October 30th. Faux fur, lace, oversized jewelry, and 1950’s-style silhouettes (though the novel is set in the 1800’s), hallmark the retailer’s Karenina-inspired collection. For a peek, head over to
InStyle.
Wanna Buy A Jeans Company?
Following a rough year in which company stock plummeted some 39%,
True Religion is putting itself up for sale. The 10-year-old premium denim brand hit big at first, favored by celebs who sported the horseshoe-stamped jeans with pride. These days, competition is much tougher in the sector, and True Religion is counting on a buyer as an answer to its prayers. Visit
The Wall Street Journal for more on the story.
Big Cuts Hit Condé Nast
Finally, though we hate to end on a negative note, via
WWD and the
New York Post, we learn of a large wave of layoffs this week affecting many fashionable magazines under the
Condé Nast publishing umbrella. Dozens of staffers at titles including
Self,
Brides,
GQ, and
Glamour were dismissed to fulfill company-wide budget cuts. Among the casualties was Susan Portnoy, a long-standing vice president who handled media relations for
Fashion’s Night Out.
