Kicking off tomorrow, Friday, August 17th, Texas’ Annual Sales Tax Holiday Weekend will attract droves of shoppers to area malls and big box stores. Whether stocking up for back-to-school or seeking savings on apparel and shoes for grown-ups, they’ll enjoy a discount of about $8 for every $100 in merchandise purchased.
The offer lasts through Sunday, August 19th, and many destinations are extending hours to accommodate crowds. We recommend checking the web or calling ahead to determine the exact opening and closing time of your destination.
We also recommend a pre-shopping visit to the Window on State Government in order to read the fine print. Not all wearable items qualify for the exemption. For example, jewelry and handbags will remain taxed, and while backpacks are part of the plan, computer and gym bags are not. Keep in mind as well that this entire offer applies only to items priced less than $100.
