Good morning, dear readers! Have you ever heard of
Dragon’s Blood?
In the world of beauty, trends rise (and plummet) as quickly as they do in the realm of fashion. Ombré hair? It’s on the way out. Ombré nails? They’re one of summer’s hottest looks. But we’ll get to that story
tomorrow. As for the Medieval-sounding elixir mentioned above, Dragon’s Blood is a plant extract with ancient pedigree, currently favored by the likes of Lady Gaga for its complexion-enhancing properties.

This Gaga-approved new trend is no surprise to Tye Shirley of
Beau Tye Beauty, Body, & Home Accessories (
pictured below). He’s been folding Dragon’s Blood into a
luxurious persimmon-scented soap for some time now, accenting it with a hint of Kaolin clay. And that’s just one of the Dallas-based beauty expert’s many natural products, which now range from body washes and salt scrubs to Cross Beau Peppermint Plumping Lip Balm. …No wonder we’re so honored to have Beau Tye as the presenting sponsor for our first-ever Summer Beauty Week. Tye, you had us at
Rose Petal Romance Bath Bomb.

Yep, you read me right. DFW Style Daily kicks off our first Summer Beauty Week today, and in our signature manner, we’ll be filling you in on trends, tips, and products for a range of styles and budgets.
…Speaking of which, I don’t know about you, but I don’t look across the (often cluttered) surface of my vanity at a sea of uni-brand bottles. I’d guess there are a dozen lines, at least, represented in my daily repertoire. Half are mainstays, and the rest are new finds. Especially in the category of color, there’s much fun to be had in beauty experimentation. Why not pick up that $5 tube of electric pink lipstick at the drug store?
Could be cool. They key is combining novelties with quality, time-tested products. I mean, you’d no sooner paint your entire face in candy-colored quickies from CVS than you would dress in head-to-toe Forever 21.
Right?

With that in mind, this week our team will explore all manner of beauty finds, and we’re going to have a great time doing it. Our two-part video tour of new NorthPark boutique
Make Up For Ever, especially, was a blast to create and will be even more fun to watch.
In the meantime, because a
question answered always wraps this weekly column of mine, I’m going to reveal a few of my favorite beauty products of all time. Prepare to mark your shopping list (if you’re so inclined), and don’t blink, ‘cause you might miss one.

In the skincare category, I simply couldn’t live without
Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer,
C.O. Bigelow Acai Repair Night Cream No. 1676, and
SkinMedica Tri-Retinol Complex ES. Also, for a faux summer glow, I combine a weekly swipe from a
Kate Somerville Somerville360° Body Tanning Towelette with daily doses of
Jergens Natural Glow. When it comes to make-up,
Estée Lauder’s Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelée is a dream. Also from Estée, the
Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara is the best I’ve tried in a very long time. (
Incidentally, I’ve never understood why Mabelline Great Lash gets so much press.) And finally, I’ve recently fallen in love with Rimmel’s new
Lasting Finish by Kate Moss lipsticks. …And there you have it!
I truly hope you enjoy the Summer Beauty Week to come. With our wishes for a beautiful summer,
