Shoe Good To Be True

Kicking things off (no pun intended), we learned via Racked this week of a judgment in the class action lawsuit against Skechers. Challenging claims that Shape-Up tennis shoes enhance weight loss and muscle toning, the suit netted a cool $40 million settlement. In addition to the cash, wording in the shoes’ Kardashian-splashed ads will be changed.

 

 

 

Film and Fashion Fuse at Cannes

Following last week’s red carpet eye candy at the Met Gala, the 65th Annual Cannes Film Festival kicked off this week in the stunning south of France. Even more A-list stars in even more impeccable designer gowns began an 11-day series of even more red carpet entrances. And we ain’t sick of it yet. So Much To Love About Alber Elbaz

What a pleasure it was to read Eric Wilson’s profile of Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz this Wednesday in the New York Times. Dubbing his subject “a nice guy who did not finish last”, Wilson painted the portrait of a jovial and self-effacing talent, always ready with a sketch for a generous fan or a bon mot on the future of fashion (“Does modern have to mean hard and harsh? Donna Summer’s Last Dance

Finally, the passing of Donna Summer on Thursday, May 17th, was a loss felt deeply in the worlds of both music and fashion.
