Trending: Ab-Solutely Fabulous

Rocking today’s highlighted trend may require a few extra trips to the gym. Can you say six sets of crunches? Ouch.

Much skin was spotted on the runway in the form of mid-baring Spring 2012 collections. Even traditionally conservative designers (Bill Blass, Jason Wu) showed looks that revealed the navel – and then some.

This is risky business, but when executed with sophistication, a glimpse of the midriff can be quite stylish. Below, a few of my favorite designer takes on this trend may inspire you to dare to bare in weeks to come.

An abbreviated bustier is paired with print at Proenza Schouler.

Charlotte Ronson’s navy knit set nods to the ‘70s.

Black and white provide a neutral backdrop for a stunning coat, bag, and shoes at Prada.

Acne’s cropped sweater adds a textured counterpoint to leather.

Finally, on the edge at all times, Band of Outsiders highlighted the mid-section more than ever before in one of my favorite spring collections.
