Coach Carla’s Picks for Sweating in Style

As we all prepare to head back into the gym, DFW Style Daily has tapped a fashionable fitness expert for top picks in great-looking workout gear.

Striking at six feet tall, with glossy dark hair and a perfect smile, ‘Coach’ Carla Ferrer wasn’t always the picture of health.  A personal wake-up call 18 years ago sparked a physical and philosophical transformation for the personal trainer, nutrition coach, and model, through which she dropped some 130 pounds. In turn, she gained a passion for helping others make positive, healthy changes in their lives.

Says Carla, “I believe that you can do anything you set your mind to, with the right support, the right tools, and the right attitude!”

During this week of resolutions and renewals of gym memberships, we have great-looking fitness gear on the brain. Who better than this stylish Coach to guide us through a few perfect picks? After all, as any fashion fan knows, a new outfit can provide a new outlook on life.

To begin, Coach Carla recommends dressing for your body type when it comes to working out. She has divided her picks into categories for pear and apple-shaped gals, as well as curvy hourglasses and slim, straight figures. All clothing is available online from Lululemon.

Pear Shape: “Your best bet is to go with solids,” says Carla. She recommends investing in a great pair of black pants to go with a pop of bright color up top.

Scoop Neck Tank, $52

Apple Shape: Our expert highlights fitted shorts or Capri pants for this body type, the better to “show off your leggy assets.” What’s more, Carla strongly warns against bell-bottoms for apple-shaped gals.

Gather & Crow Crop, $86

Hourglass Shape: “Choose fitted v-necks and scoop neck tops that accentuate your waist,” Carla advises in this category. “Pair them with either a sport skirt or flared pants for a proportionate balance with your shoulders.”

Hot ‘N Sweaty Skirt, $58

Straight Shape: The Coach steers this shape to styles with detailing at the waist and plenty of color in the mix, to enhance curves.

Run Your Heart Out Tank, $58

Last but not least, accessories are also a must when it comes to working out. A headband in a wicking fabric is essential, according to Coach Carla, as is a functional bag.

Lucky Luon Headband, $12

On a parting note, she advises, “Keep an extra set of cosmetics and hair products in your bag at all times, so as to eliminate excuses for not heading out the door.”
