So, what’s on indie designer Isabel Varela’s mind, as we kick off 2012? For starters, she’s indulging her healthy cuisine cravings at one of the city’s vegetarian hot spots. You may also find her perusing the selection at one of our favorite Deep Ellum boutiques.

However, truth be told, Isabel isn’t likely to have much time for leisurely shopping this year. Previously one half of the design team Varela + Brooks, she is busily preparing for the launch of her own line, Izavel, this spring. In fact, both she and former partner Ashlee Brooks will show individual collections at February’s Pin Show.

In the meantime, read on for Isabel’s deliciously daring obsessions for the new year.

1. VSpot Café

Of her culinary crush, Isabel notes, “I love VSpot’s spin on vegetarian dishes, especially their arugula fettuccini.” Stop in for a bite at 1908 Henderson Avenue in Dallas.

2. Fabulous Finds at Factory Girl

“I am in love with Factory Girl! I adore its amazing selection of designer vintage pieces,” says Isabel. We concur, and we recently found our favorite boots of the season, the vintage python pair shown here, at the new boutique. Shop for yourself at 3005A Commerce Street in Dallas.

3. Dreamy Designs on Buamai.com

Calling it “pretty fantastic,” our expert can’t get enough of creative design portal Buamai. Upping the ante, many of the pictures and videos shared on the site are also hilariously entertaining.

4. Shoes by Jeffrey Campbell

“Every single one of Jeffrey Campbell’s designs right now is amazing,” Isabel gushes. That said, one particular piece of fabulous footwear is fueling her current Campbell fixation: The Night Walk platform ($170) in glittering pewter.

5. Starbucks’ Tazo Chai Tea Latte

Finally, though she never sips coffee, this designing woman has become addicted to another caffeinated creation. Of her must-have beverage, Isabel admits, “I can’t get enough of them!”
