J. Lo and Marc Anthony Invade Kohl’s

DFW Style Daily braved a Dallas-area Kohl’s department store this week to check out the much-hyped J. Lo and Marc Anthony collections. Spoiler alert: It’s not the fur-trimmed and glitter-drenched affair you might imagine.

Read on for Abby Gregory’s headshot-splashed mixed review.

Up close and in-person, the Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony collections for Kohl’s were fairly conservative, at least compared to what we anticipated. Both debuted last week, and the most exciting element of the collaborations are the enormous, giggle-inducing posters of the newly-split stars on every conceivable display throughout the store.

Prepare to endure a lot of face time with both celebrities if you plan to visit Kohl’s in the near future.

Moving on to the goods themselves, the muted neutrals and soft olive shades in Lopez’s women’s pieces worked well for the unstructured tees and sweaters that dominated the collection. Also, her work-appropriate dresses were actually quite adorable.

The weak point for J. Lo, however, was her shoe selection. Tasteless stilettos and boots showed poor workmanship and questionable aesthetics in every aspect of their design.

Imagine our surprise, then, that footwear turned out to be the high point of Marc Anthony’s men’s collection. The vintage-inspired boots and suede lace-ups were well-executed and on-trend.

But that’s only half of the equation. When it comes to Anthony’s clothing, guys, we recommend avoiding all casual looks entirely. Most of the button-ups and tees are dated at best, and smarmy at worst.

Suits fared better, as most were understated and slim-lined.

Looking back at the Kohl’s visit overall, we were mostly pleased with what we saw. Unlike Karl Lagerfeld for Macy’s, Lopez and Anthony have not attempted too much in the way of structure and style that cannot be executed at a lower price point.

On a parting note, lest you think J. Lo has completely abandoned her typically over-the-top fashion sense in favor of sensible separates, we did spot a certain faux fur jacket of which ‘Jenny from the Block’ would no doubt approve.

Shop the Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony collections for Kohl’s in stores and online. Most clothing rings in at $30 – $100, including all accessories.
