Each week, DFW Style Daily’s Jim Duran shares key wardrobe tips for guys. Today, he taps JCPenney’s Men’s Trend Director for vintage-inspired fall accessory picks, worthy of a Hollywood leading man.

In the fashion world at large, trends change quickly. When it comes to men’s fashion, however, looks often carry over or repeat, due to limited tailoring options and market appeal. Along with new fabrications, designers turn to accessories to give men’s wardrobe staples new life.

For fall 2011, classic Americana and Hollywood are go-to inspirations in this category, which includes shades, hats, and ties.

We tapped Brad Ross, Trend Director for Men’s Apparel at JCPenney, to highlight some of the hottest men’s accessory options right now. Of his picks, Ross explains, “These items are influenced by looking back and extracting the best of times past. They’re borrowed from the hopeful ‘American Dream’ and vintage American culture, with current updates for today.”

Let’s have a look at Ross’ list. All items are available online or at area JCPenney locations.

“A simply cool pair of shades comes in the form of classic aviators,” Ross explains. Rock a pair like Robert Redford’s above, starting at just $14.99.

On the subject of ties, our expert takes a cue from the era of Mad Men. “For those who need the shirt placket covered, the square bottom knit tie is an ideal alternative. Made popular by the Ivy League set in the mid-century, this style was revived again in the eighties.”

Finally, Ross has a throwback hat alternative for fedora-phobic gents. “The newsboy cap from ‘40s is a continued favorite,” he says. JCPenney’s extensive selection starts at around $20.
